Edible Images
Frequently Asked Questions

What are they and how they work

Edible images are images printed on edible icing sheets or rice paper using food grade edible ink.

What are the ingredients?

Icing sheets:
Water, Corn starch, Corn syrup, Cellulose, Corn syrup solids, Corn oil, Gum Arabic, Sugar, Modified starch, Glycerine, Polysorbate, Vanilla, Artificial colour, Citric acid.

Rice paper:
Starch, Water and Vegetable Oil.

Edible ink:
Water, Humectant e422, e1520, preservative e202, colour e129, acidifier e330.

What is the shelf life of the icing sugar sheets?

Icing sheets can be stored for up to 12 months.
Rice paper can be stored for up to 2 years.

How do I store my edible sheets?

Icing sheets must be stored in their original packaging in a sealed bag away from direct sunlight and in a cool dark place until ready to use.

Exposure to sunlight will cause fading of the colors of your edible print.
DO NOT store in the fridge

What kind of surfaces can the edible icing sheets be placed on?

The edible icing sheets can be used on most cake coverings, includes buttercream*, SMBC*, IMBC*, fondant, royal icing, ganache.

If you are using any wet surfaces* it is advisable that you use a thin layer of fondant underneath your image as the sheets are quite thin.
As ganache and fondant are quite hard surfaces, the edible print will be a far more superior finish for you.
Use a small mist of water on the surface (steamer always gives an even coverage) to apply your icing sheet to the cake. (refer to video)
If you are applying an icing image cut out to the cake, you may want to use piping gel for a stronger hold.
Ganache or fondant covered cakes DO NOT require refrigeration!

For cupcakes, it is advisable to use a thin layer of fondant as a base to your edible icing print before applied onto the cupcake.
The sheets are quite thin and placing them directly onto the cupcake with no base will cause the edible print to flop.

Rice paper butterflies can be placed onto the cupcakes or cake on the day of the event.

Edible images can also be placed on top of any hot or cold beverage and will stay intact for 10-15 minutes before they begin to dissolve.
Use with any creamy coffee beverage so the colors pop – such as Latte, Cappuccino, Mocha or Try it on any foam topped cocktails.

When should I place my print onto my cake or cupcakes/cookies?

Any cake that requires a print can be placed onto the cake 1-2 days before the event. Same day is always advisable but if you are time poor this is fine too.

Any cupcakes with an edible print with no backing (thin layer of fondant) can be placed onto the cupcake the day of the event.

Any edible prints with a fondant backing can be placed a day before the event.
Any cookies with an edible print can be placed on from 1-2 weeks before an event, the edible prints store well in a sealed bag.

Any rice paper butterflies can be placed on a cake/cupcakes on the day of the event.

How do I trim the image/photo?

The soft and thin nature of the icing sheet allows for easy trimming with either a sharp knife, blade or can be cut with scissors.

What if the edible print becomes hard/brittle?

There is a method that you can use in order to hydrate the sheets. Wet a small hand towel and place it in the microwave for 1 minute.

Remove from microwave and place it onto a bench.

Place the image in a sealed bag and place the bag with the image facing up onto the hot towel.
This will hydrate the sheet and make it easier to handle.

Icing sheets MUST be kept in their sealed bag until ready to use. DO NOT open the bag as this tends to dry out the icing sheet.

Can you freeze or refrigerate the cake after applying the icing sheet?

Any cake that has been covered in buttercream or SMBC that requires refrigeration and has an edible image on it CAN be placed in the fridge.

This will not cause any damage to the edible print, no ink runs, ice crystals or condensation will occur.

The edible prints can also be placed on your cake 2 days prior to the event.

Rice paper butterflies CANNOT go in the fridge as they are affected by humidity from the oils in the buttercream.

Can you print metallic colours?

It is impossible to print any type of metallic colours with edible inks. Edible inks aren’t the same as normal inks.

You can however go over the print using your favorite edible paint with a brush.

How do you ship your orders?

All edible prints are placed in a sealed air tight bag. The images are placed either in a weatherproof envelope,

hard card envelope or express post envelope with a hard cardboard insert to avoid any damages in transit.

Any international orders with a large parcel have 2 cardboard inserts.

How soon will my order arrive?

Generally, any orders that are placed before 12pm on a business day will be dispatched same day.

Custom orders or any other orders that require print and cut service will be sent within the next business day.

No orders are dispatched until FULL payment has been made.
